Keeping your home tidy can be exhausting, especially if you have a big family and a small space. Having a tidy living area has been shown to raise overall levels of happiness and satisfaction, but the process of cleaning itself is often a daunting one.

However, keeping your home tidy doesn’t have to be a chore. There are lots of small changes you can make to reduce the amount of clutter and ensure you spend less time putting things away. In this article, we’ll look at ways you can keep your home tidier for longer while using less effort, even if you have lots of kids running around!

Cable Management

These days, most of our daily activities depend on electronic devices and gadgets. Whether it’s finishing up reports from your home office or cooking up a storm in the kitchen, the chances are that you use electricity in some way.

Electronic devices certainly make our lives easier, but they can lead to a lot of clutter and untidy rooms if we’re not careful. If you want to keep your home looking tidy and clean, it’s important to manage those unsightly cables.

Using wireless devices is a step in the right direction and can certainly help cut down a lot of clutter. Still, these devices need to be charged at some point, and you’ll likely have at least one reel of cable tucked away somewhere.

If you want to keep things tidy without having to move things all the time, make sure you’re practising cable management. This means using devices to keep cables out of the way and ensure your devices can still be used without having long and messy cables tangling up.

Do Regular Clearouts

We could all benefit from a clearout from time to time. Whether it’s the old toybox sitting on top of the wardrobe or those shirts which are a little too tight now. While it’s hard to part ways with some things that have sentimental value, it’s important to think about how you can save space by getting rid of things you no longer use.

As a family, schedule a time when you can all get together and sort through your old things. By holding each other accountable, you can be far more effective at removing old and unwanted items. This is a great chance to donate things to local charity shops or even sell better items on platforms such as eBay.

Of course, you don’t have to go too crazy with it, make sure you still have enough things to live comfortably. Still, by removing unused items, you can help to reduce clutter, and it means you’ll spend less time tidying them up, cleaning them and putting them away.

Use More Storage Units

Even with regular clearouts, you still need to find a place for all your things to keep them out of the way. The answer is to simply have more storage units and get creative with how you store everything. Shelving units, drawers and storage boxes can all be used to save space and limit how much tidying you have to do.

However, it’s easy to throw things in a box and forget about them until your next spring clean. Make sure you have a system for which things go where. For example, you can keep this season’s clothes in your wardrobe and store the remaining clothes under the bed. It’s also a good idea to label boxes, especially if they’re opaque. This way, it’s much easier to find what you’re looking for.
