At the height of the lockdown in 2020, 60% of the UK’s adult population worked from home. Were you one of the people who smugly added a garden room to your home to help with working from home during the pandemic? If so firstly I am super jealous, and secondly, are you still using it as an office or have you gone back to working away from home full-time again? If the latter is true, then what are you doing with your garden room now? Has it become a bit of a dumping ground or have you repurposed it in some way?
Garden rooms offer a watertight and insulated additional space option meaning the room remains dry, healthy and comfortable to use all year round which means it is perfect for several uses and not just a workspace. With features including lining, insulation and electrics, there are so many things you can do with your building throughout the colder months of the year.
So I am here today to help you decide how you can make the most of your garden room.
What can you do with a garden room?
Office: If you are still working from home, or are in a hybrid role then your garden room can continue to be a comfortable and quiet workspace. It can offer separation from the main house, removing distractions and creating a dedicated work environment. Make sure you personalise your space to make it a really productive space. You could even include a ‘break-out space’ with floor cushions and informal seating, to escape the screen and enjoy a garden break with a book during your lunch break.
Garden Bar: To make a fab extra social space, why not set up a bar and stools where you can enjoy a drink with friends? Create a funky display of bottles, glasses, glasses and cocktail-making kit. You could even install a pump if you want to pull a real pint and throw in a personalised neon sign to really make a splash.
Home Cinema: Simply installing a home theatre system in your garden room can offer fantastic movie nights or game days with space for all your friends and family to join you (if you’re willing to share). Why not treat yourself to reclining chairs, LED lighting strips and your own popcorn machine!
Games Room: If you prefer a game of pool over a night at the movies why not consider making your very own games room in the garden? From ping-pong tables, board games and dart boards to arcade games to video game setups, there are so many options you’ll have something to play every day of the week,.
Mind and body space: Garden rooms can be transformed into exercise spaces, allowing you to work out without leaving your home. Even the smallest garden room can still fit a rack of weights, padded floor mats and a punching bag. Or create a calm space where you can enjoy meditation or yoga. You could even install a hot tub and use your garden room as your very own personal spa (yes please!)
Green therapy: I really enjoy growing things, from herbs and veggies to flowers and if you’re a keen bean for everything green like me, how about using your garden room as a place to potter about, potting-up plants and more until your heart’s content? I wish I had more space to organise my gardening bits and pieces and somewhere to start seeds off (where the cats can’t throw them on the floor). You could even throw in some comfy seating where you can enjoy a rest while watching your garden grow.
I hope that this has given you a few ideas to help you really make the most of your garden room, whether you are using it for work, play or to relax. Enjoy!
