I am a huge fan of Eagle Heights, it’s a wildlife centre local to me which I have been visiting since it opened in 1995. One of the UK’s largest Bird of Prey Centres, currently Eagle Heights have a collection of approximately 100 raptors along with Meerkats, African Servals, Farm Animals, Reptiles, Huskies and more. They even do special events like the marvellous owl experience I attended last year.
In order to raise funds to keep the centre going, Eagle Heights offer a number of experiences including spending a morning flying a number of their birds of prey and taking walks with their alpacas or huskies! Alongside these animal encounters, they offer a delicious afternoon tea which you can enjoy in their lovely tea room overlooking the beautiful Darent Valley.
The afternoon tea is fairly traditional, offering a selection of sandwiches, cakes and sweet treats along with scones complete with clotted cream and tasty jam. Gluten-free and vegan options are available. Of course, you can also choose from tea and coffee to go with it.
My family and I were served very dainty looking finger sandwiches with an array of fillings. My parents and sister tucked into their sandwiches whilst I was given my own separate plate of vegan options which were very tasty and satisfying.
Next, we tried our scones along with the cream and jam. Again, I had my own vegan options. I hadn’t had a scone with cream and jam since before I became vegan over 3 years ago! It’s safe to say I enjoyed them.
The third course included a selection of small cakes and tasty treats. My family fought over their selection while I felt rather smug having been presented with a large slice of vegan chocolate cake which was super moist and delicious, alongside some smaller treats.
Overall we had a great time at our afternoon experience. The food was lovely, the atmosphere great and the service friendly. I would definitely recommend it and will certainly be going back for more in the future!
