Are you tired of your home? Perhaps walking through the front door now gives you a sense of dread whereas it should fill you with comfort. This is no good for anyone, and if you’ve found yourself feeling like this now or in the near past, you have to do something about it. Your home should be the place in which you feel most comfortable, happiest and most secure, so if this is not the way that you feel, change is needed.

One of the reasons that people are put off doing this is because they think that it will be too much effort, but it doesn’t have to be. You can make changes in small increments, knowing that you are moving towards the ultimate goal of having your home the way that you want it. If you’re not sure where to start then you’ve come to the right place, as this is what we’re going to be discussing today. Keep reading if you are interested in what we have to say!

Add An Extension If You Can

It might feel as though your home is super cramped, like you have no room, and generally not ideal for you space wise. If you have the space around your home, you can add an extension and this won’t be an issue anymore. Of course, you have to have the right amount of space either on the front, back or side of your property, or else there’s nowhere for the extension which means that it’s not the right choice for everyone.

If you do have the space though and you want to expand your home, get in touch with a contractor as soon as you can. In fact, get in touch with a few different ones, speak to different people about how much they are going to charge for what you want, and how long it is going to take to complete. We know that the impulse is always to go for the contractor that can offer it to you the cheapest, but only do this if you’re sure they are going to do a quality job. It’s not worth compromising on quality for price.

Once this is built, you will have a whole new area of your home that you can use to your advantage. You may decide to use this as another living room, a bedroom, a playroom for your kids, a home office for you or whatever will make you happy. It’s a long and messy process, but once it’s finished you will be so glad you did it.

Maximise Storage

Another thing that we encourage you to do is maximise storage and make the most of what you can get. We know that if you live in a place that isn’t exactly large, it can be hard to fit all of your items in without looking like you’re in some kind of jumble sale which is not ideal for you. The good news is that storage is going to be your best friend. Some people like to DIY their own storage solutions by purchasing a range of different options and fitting them in their home where they can. This is a fantastic solution if you are creative and love doing things like this as it helps you to figure out where everything is going to go without things getting in the way all of the time.

If you’re not very creative and you would rather just purchase the storage solution for you, then you can look at bespoke options that can be created for your home. All you need to do is find a company that is willing to work with you, let them come into your home and then they can work their magic. This is usually a little on the pricier side, but to be honest it’s completely worth it to get the most out of all of your storage and have your home clear.

Try Some New Furniture

It’s entirely possible that you are just bored of having the same things that you’ve had for years. Of course, when you purchase a piece of furniture you don’t do so thinking that you’re going to change it in a couple of years…or most people don’t anyway because it’s expensive! Having said that though, there always comes a time where you need to replace items, and now might be the time if you’re just fed up with what you once loved. It’s okay to outgrow the things that you used to like, and it’s time to make room for the new things that you want.

So, let’s start by looking at sofas! Sofas are a staple for the living room, and for some people other areas of their home like their bedroom or their kitchen. However, they are commonly found in the living room so let’s stick with this idea for now. If you know that you are a leather sofa lover, then instead of looking at all of your options and exploring fabric ones also, why not just stick with a search for modern leather sofas that will look good with the design that you’re going for? There’s no need to faff about what you already know what you want.

Redecorate Your Walls

Does looking at your walls make you want to put your head through them? We’ve all been there and it’s not an ideal place to be. The good news is that this is actually one of the easiest things to change, it just takes a little bit of your time. So, to sort out your walls we recommend taking everything off of them, stripping any wallpaper that might be there, and starting from scratch. If it’s paint, then put on a base coat so that when you change the colour it actually turns to what you want it to, rather than having a weird kind of tinge to it.

Choosing a colour is not just as simple as looking at what is on the tin though and we need you to know that. You cannot make a decision based on this, you need samples and you need to put them on your wall to see how they look. Some look completely different to what you see in the tin, and the last thing that we want is for you to be disappointed in the end result.

Once you’ve done this and you’ve either painted or papered the whole thing, then it’s time to hang back up your art. Or, get new art. It depends on what will make you happy with your space.

Renovate Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and if you don’t like being in there because it’s your idea of ugly, then you need to change it, right? Of course we know that getting a new kitchen is so expensive and out of the budget of so many people, so there are a few options to think about here. The first is that you can save up to have your kitchen completely ripped out and have a new one fitted. This is okay if you have patience, but if you want immediate changes then option number two is going to be your friends.

Option number two is that you start making budget friendly changes and renovating your kitchen this way. This can include changing the cupboard fronts by painting them or simply buying new ones. Changing up the countertop, changing up the flooring, buying some new appliances, and rearranging everything. It might take a while, and you probably won’t find the perfect solution right away, but it’s cheaper and it still gives the kitchen a whole new look that you adore.

Make Any And All Repairs

Last but by absolutely no means least, you should be making any and all repairs that are present as soon as you can. You are never going to love your home to the max if there is constant work that needs to be done and you’re just not doing it. Holes in the walls that you’re not using? Fill them up. Your roof is leaking? Get it fixed yourself or get a roofer out to take a look. Is the place constantly cold? Consider adding some more insulation. It’s simple things like this that can make a world of difference sometimes, and you don’t even realise it until you’ve done them.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the ways in which you can fall in love with your home all over again. It’s okay to feel tired of your home, but you have to put the work in to make it somewhere that you love once again. Too many people think that the only solution to this is to move, but hopefully you now see that this doesn’t have to be the case if you don’t want to go through the stress of moving. It’s down to you to make the changes, so if you want to, you will.
