In previous posts, I mentioned that I took a trip to Seville last summer for a spot of sun, sangria and scenery. After the Plaza de España and the Alcázar of Seville, we decided to take a day trip to Córdoba, which was once the largest city in Europe with a great deal of Moorish influence.

Around an hour or so on the train from Seville, and about a 20 min walk took us to the Mezquita – a Mosque converted to a Catholic Cathedral when the city returned to Christian rule. This truly is an incredible building to behold. The interior double-arched arcades stretch as far as you can see, with enclaves decorated with inscriptions incongruously next to a Catholic alter.

For our next stop, we visited Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, a medieval palace with fortified towers, and beautiful, flowering gardens which are definitely worth a visit.

Even wandering around the town you can easy stumble across some unique architecture and pretty streets adorned with flowers, which was a lovely way to end the day and head back to Seville.
