Guinness Storehouse
You cannot go to Dublin without a trip to the Guinness Storehouse. It is located in a building that was once the fermentation plant of the brewery but now you can go on a tour over 7 floors to see the story of Guinness, Its history and its culture. Kilmainham Gaol
Kilmainham Gaol is a brilliant place to visit if you want to learn about the history of Dublin. From 1796- to 1924 it contained some of the most famous military and political leaders in Irish history. During its time as a prison, Many revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed at Kilmainham Gaol. As a result, it is still seen a symbol of Ireland’s rebellion against the British.
Tickets must be brought online in advance. However, they do release any cancelled tickets daily at 9:15 am. Tickets cost €8 for an adult and €4 for a child.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral
St. Patrick’s cathedral is the largest in Ireland. This medieval cathedral offers guided tours or has a free app if you prefer to go at your pace. It is named after St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland who on this location used a well to baptise many Irish people into Christianity. The National Wax Museum Plus
The National Wax Museum Plus is a fun wax museum with something for everyone. You have can get a photo with a famous celebrity and travel through Irish history. There is even a kids section where you can see some of your favourite children’s characters such as Peppa Pig or Harry Potter. You can travel around the museum at your own pace and learn about Ireland and Irish history as you go.
Tickets are slightly cheaper if you buy online and cost €16.50 for an adult or €11.50 for a child. under 5’s go free.
The National Wax Museum Plus also holds murder mystery evenings. You have to assume a character, go around the museum in an attempt to solve a case, but one of you is a killer and will try to throw you off. It cost €250 for a party of up to 12. You must book in advance and it last around an hour.
National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology
If you are looking for something free why not visit the National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology. This museum highlights all major archaeological discoveries found in Ireland. Its earliest artefacts date back 700BC. It has many exhibitions including Prehistoric Ireland and Viking Ireland where you can learn about what has been discovered in Ireland and how the land was once used. They sell a guide book however you can also download a copy as a pdf to plan your visit.
Bus Tours
Dublin has many hop-on hop-off bus tours where you can learn about Dublin and see all the main attractions. Some tours have a live guide telling you about Dublin while others use a pre-recorded guide. Your ticket is valid for 24 hours so you can do the full tour or hop off at any stop and hop back on later.
