Look In The Kitchen Cupboards
Babies love rattling around the pan cupboard whilst you are in the kitchen. So this is where you are going to find the best bath toys that your child will love. Start with things like plastic tubs. We all have tubs that lose their lids over time. So those tubs can find a new home in the bathroom as bath time toys that are free. They won’t need lids as they will only use the tubs to pour water over themself (and you).
Measuring spoons, plastic glasses, tubs, and cooking spoons are all great for playing in the bath. Basically, if your child can pour from it, stir with it or watch it float then it is perfect for the bath.
Also, things with holes will make them laugh as they play in the bath. If you have a sieve or colander in the kitchen that isn’t being used, put it in with the bath toys. They can use it to go ‘fishing’ in the bath and catch all of their toys. Then they get to watch as all of the water comes out of the colander. Can you think of anything more fun?
When you are going through your kitchen to look for bathtime toys that are free, you do need to think about what you are using. stay away from wooden kitchen utensils as they will go mildewy and get splinters. Metal utensils will rust and could harm your child.
Grab Some Mesh Fruit Bags At The Supermarket
Obviously, you do not want to find these toys in the bath when it comes to your bath time. You want to just get in and relax. So at the end of your child’s bath time, empty the water from the bath toys and hang them in a mesh bag to dry. Now you do not need to buy an expensive toy storage bag from the shops.
All you need to grab is a mesh fruit and veg bag from the supermarket. Supermarkets sell these bags for about 20 or 30p as an alternative to using plastic bags for your fruit and veg. Grab one or two of these to store your child’s bath toys in. They do the same job as an expensive shop-bought mesh bag.
They also have a pull string on them so you can pop it onto a hook over the sink or bath to drip. It keeps them tidy and they will dry properly.
Cut Up Some Sponges And Foam For The Bath
If you have some craft foam lying around the house you can make a bath toy. You can use the foam to cut out shapes and letters. Then they will stick to the side of the bath when they are wet. Then as they dry, they will dry hard again. Also, try sponges; have a rummage through your kitchen drawers and collect sponges of different colours and sizes. Then cut them into different shapes. Your child can use these to float in the bath, they can pile them high and have fun as they bathe.
