As a parent of a two-year-old, I’ve experienced firsthand how quickly our little ones progress through different sleep solutions. Having recently transitioned my daughter to a midsleeper bed, I thought it would be helpful to share our journey through the various stages of children’s beds, including our honest experience with our latest upgrade – the Flair Loop Midsleeper Bed Storage Set from Bed Kingdom.
[Note: The Flair Loop Midsleeper Bed Storage Set was gifted to us by Bed Kingdom for review purposes. All opinions expressed are my own honest thoughts.]
The Natural Sleep Solution Progression
Moses Basket (0-4 months) Those first few months with a newborn are precious yet challenging. Moses baskets offer the perfect starting point for several reasons:
- Creates a cosy, womb-like environment
- Easy to move between rooms (particularly helpful during those endless feeding sessions)
- Helps regulate baby’s temperature due to the smaller space
- Ideal size for newborns without feeling overwhelming
- Perfect for keeping baby close during those early weeks
Cot (4 months – 2 years) The traditional next step is a cot, offering:
- Increased space for growing and moving
- Adjustable mattress heights for different stages
- Robust safety standards
- Protective bars to prevent falls
- Potential for long-term use
However, every child is different. In our case, my daughter’s impressive nocturnal acrobatics meant we needed to rethink this traditional timeline – she moved from her cot at just 10 months old!
Toddler/Day Bed (18 months – 4 years) For us, a day bed with a bed guard proved to be an excellent intermediate solution:
- Lower height for safe access
- Protective bed guards without the confinement of cot bars
- Promotes independence
- Gentler transition to a ‘big bed’
- Often compatible with cot mattresses for cost-effectiveness
Midsleeper Bed (2+ years) Which brings me to our current stage – the midsleeper bed. We’ve recently upgraded to the Flair Loop Midsleeper Bed Storage Set from Bed Kingdom, and I’m excited to share our experience.

Our Current Bed Setup: The Flair Loop Midsleeper Review
First Impressions
The bed arrived in several well-packaged boxes, and I’ll admit – the sight of all the components had me reaching for a calming cuppa! Thankfully, I had my own assembly dream team – my husband Steve and my parents – ready to tackle the project together.
Assembly Experience
The assembly became a proper family affair. Steve took charge of the main frame construction, while my dad handled the storage units. Mum and I managed component sorting and instruction reading (with regular tea breaks, naturally). The whole process took about three hours, including our traditional family debates about who was reading the instructions correctly!
Design and Quality
We chose the White colour scheme, which perfectly complements my daughter’s room. The Scandinavian-inspired design with curved end panels adds a modern touch without being overly trendy – essential for a piece of furniture we hope will last several years.
Storage Solutions
One of the standout features is the impressive storage setup. The set includes two three-drawer chests, providing six spacious drawers (73cm x 73cm x 40cm each). We’ve organised ours as follows:
Top drawers:
- Current season clothing
- Special occasion wear
- Favourite bedtime books
Middle drawers:
- Toys and games
- Extra bedding sets
- Current craft projects
Bottom drawers:
- Next size up clothing
- Seasonal items
- Extra blankets
Safety Features
As a mum, safety was my primary concern, and this bed delivers impressively:
- Built-in safety rails provide peace of mind
- Perfect mid-sleeper height – special but not daunting
- Sturdy ladder (we positioned ours against the wall)
- Appropriate mattress depth guidelines for safety
Future Bed Stages
Single Bed (4+ years) The next traditional step typically involves:
- Standard single bed setup
- Removal of safety features as confidence grows
- More ‘grown-up’ bedroom styling options
- Long-term sleeping solution
High Sleeper/Cabin Bed (6+ years) Perfect for school-age children, offering:
- Maximum floor space utilisation
- Dedicated study areas underneath
- Extensive storage solutions
- Adventure factor while maintaining safety
Teen Years (12+) The final transition usually involves:
- Standard single or double beds
- Divan beds with storage
- Futons or sofa beds for flexible room use
- Loft beds for smaller rooms needing study space

Making the Right Choice for Your Child
Key Considerations:
- Child’s age and development stage
- Room dimensions and layout
- Storage requirements
- Safety features
- Long-term value
- Budget constraints
Our Experience
The transition to our midsleeper has been surprisingly smooth. My daughter loves her ‘big girl castle bed’, and the storage solutions have transformed her room organisation. The space underneath has become a cosy reading nook, and she’s developed new independence in managing her belongings.
While the positives far outweigh any negatives, there are a few minor considerations:
- Additional pre-drilled ladder position options would be useful
- A built-in bookshelf would be a nice addition
Final Thoughts
Every child’s journey through different bed stages is unique, and what works for one family might not suit another. Our progression from cot to day bed to midsleeper has been slightly unconventional, but it’s worked perfectly for our needs.
The Flair Loop Midsleeper has proven to be an excellent choice for our current stage, offering the perfect combination of safety, storage, and style. While it was gifted to us by Bed Kingdom, I can confidently say it’s a worthwhile investment for families seeking a practical, long-term sleeping solution.
