If you are trying to make sure that you are caring for your car as well as you can, one of the main things you might want to try and achieve is for it to run as long as possible. That is the main aim that most of us are going for with a vehicle, and it’s possible to achieve as long as you put your mind to it. In this post, we are going to discuss some of the things that you are going to want to try out here which could help you to keep your car running for much longer.
Stay On Top Of Oil Changes
Oil keeps your engine lubricated and running smoothly. Over time, the oil itself will become dirty and degraded, and it will cause more harm than it’s fixing. Because of that, it’s important to make sure that the oil level is topped up, but also that it is being changed regularly as well, according to schedule. It’s a simple job, but it’s going to help you to keep your engine working for much longer, so it is really worth doing as a standard part of servicing your vehicle.
Keep Fluid Levels Topped Up
The fluid levels are really important, and there are several that your car needs to rely on to function properly. That includes transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, power steering fluid and windshield washer fluid. Check them regularly and top them off as needed, because low levels can be one of the quickest ways to wear out parts of your car – or even have them fail completely. This is obviously to be avoided if at all possible, so you’ll want to watch your fluid levels for sure as closely as you can.
Watch The Battery
The battery is another really important part of the car. Without it, you are not going to be able to start the car in the first place. So you’ll need to keep an eye on it and just make sure that it is in good condition. You can use a multimeter to check its charge, which should sit at around 12.6 or 12.7 volts at least. If it gets too low, or you notice the car struggling to start, consider a car battery replacement. That can be a simple way to keep your car running – and starting – for a lot longer.
Keep Tyres Inflated
If you want to get as much life out of your tyres as possible, you’ll need to make sure that you are keeping them properly inflated. This is simple enough to do, but it’s easy to forget about. At the same time, don’t over-inflate them, as that can cause troubles in a different way. Check the tyre pressure monthly and before any long trips, and make sure you rotate them every 7,000 miles or so as well. That is going to help keep wear to a minimum, and even as well.
