Now is the perfect time for a spring clean. It is one of those things that we know we need to do but we tend to put it off. Here are a few simple tips to help you find the motivation for your spring clean.

Have Your Own Style

There are many tips and hints to help you with your cleaning the most important one is to work out your style of cleaning. Some people prefer to lock their phones away while they clean so they are not tempted by distractions. Others like to play music and sing along as they clean. You may also have your system of cleaning. You may wish to start with the easiest tasks or start with the hardest. Do what works for you.

Get the whole family involved. Give your children easy age-appropriate tasks and make it into a game. Set everyone a target. Or allow them to keep any money made from selling their old toys.

Some people find it helps to have a reward in place for finishing a certain amount. Maybe you want to reward yourself with an hour of the tv after you have finished the kitchen.

Make A Check List

Make a list of all the things that you want to clean or organise. You find it helpful to walk around your house and pinpoint what areas you wish to focus on. Then stick to your list.

If you make a list and stick to it, you can tick off when you have achieved them. This will encourage you to continue as you can see how much you have done.

If you find a new task that needs doing during your clean. Add it to the bottom of your list. Don’t do things without putting them on your list. This is because you won’t appreciate how much you have got done.

Don’t Take On Too Much

It is easy to get distracted and start something new. But don’t take on too much at a time. Choose something to do and focus only on that. For example, focus on organising your clothes and give your wardrobe a spring clean; don’t start another task until you have finished. If you start too many tasks you won’t finish them and will lose motivation as it will seem like nothing is getting done.

Make sure you don’t expect too much of yourself. If you are dreading a part of your spring clean, break it up into smaller tasks. For example, if you are dreading cleaning the kitchen, break it up into small tasks. Take breaks between the smaller tasks when you need them.

Sort Things Into Categories

When you are sorting your things through, put them into 4 categories. Anything you are choosing to keep gets put away, then have bags for throwing away, selling and donations. Be strict with yourself. Do you really need this?

Regularly get rid of these bags. As soon as a bag is full, take it to the charity shop or throw your rubbish out. Your house won’t start to feel less cluttered until everything is out of your house. If you are selling things either put them on an online selling site immediately or book a stall at a local jumble sale.

Put Things Into Storage

One of the reasons for clutter is items we don’t need right now but will need in the future. Items such as seasonal clothing can take up a lot of space. Try putting these in a storage cupboard or an attic until you need them again.

You can buy storage bags that you suck the air out of so they don’t take up much space. Alternatively, store things under your bed or in other things you don’t use regularly. For example in a suitcase.

This way you will have more space to work with and your stuff won’t look so cluttered.

Make Sure You Have Supplies

Before you start, make sure you have all the supplies you will need. You don’t want to get halfway through before realising you don’t have something. This could cause you to put off your spring cleaning for a while.

Consider buying fabric clothes rather than paper towels. They are better for the environment, and you can simply wash them when you have finished an area. This means you will never run out.

Spring Cleaning

Hopefully, you can use these tips to help you with your spring clean. Remember to be strict with yourself. If you don’t need it or don’t use it, get rid of it. You will feel so much better after you have finished.
